Chelation involves the binding of a substance to metals, to form complexes which allow toxic metals to be removed from the body. The word comes from the Greek word "chele" meaning claw, as it describes the ability of chelators to grab on to compounds . Chelation can be done via different agents, including EDTA, DMSA, DMPS, lipoic acid, malic acid, vitamin C, and glutathione. Routes of administering chelators also vary, we primarily use oral doses in our clinic and do not offer IV (intravenous) chelation. Dr. Bratt is specially trained in Chelation Therapy, and has been board certified in its use by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC.
Detoxification is a natural process in the body, primarily performed by the liver, which metabolizes toxins to enable their elimination safely. This process is often compromised in individuals, and supporting the detoxification pathways is an important part of therapy. Methods range from detoxifying herbs and nutrients to clay baths and infrared saunas.
